The Winchester Orchestra For its second concert of the season, Henry Mollicone's Winchester Orchestra welcomes guest soloist Daniel del Pino from Spain, who will perform Mendelssohn's Concerto no. 1 for Piano and Orchestra. Also on tap are Scarlatti's Sinfonia no. 5 for Strings and Flutes (with flutists Eileen Wickemeyer and Doreen Wilson), Mozart's Symphony no. 31 (Paris) and Schubert's Overture to Rosamunde. San Jose Chamber Music Society The Miro String Quartet guest jumps into town with composer Kevin Puts for the South Bay premiere of Puts' latest, CREDO. Fans of the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music will be familiar with Puts' work; his Symphony no. 4 was commissioned by the festival especially for the unique acoustics and setting of Mission San Juan Bautista Church. The rest of the program ranges from Mozart's Quartet K. 499 (Hoffmeister) and Beethoven's Quartet op. 59, no 1. Saturday (Oct. 13) at 8pm; Le Petit Trianon, 72 N. St. Lawrence String Quartet For its annual visit to Stanford Lively Arts, the quartet performs Bay Area composer John Adams' John's Book of Alleged Dances, a piece from 1994 using both live sounds and recorded percussion. The rest of the bill includes Haydn's C Major Quartet and Beethoven's Quartet no. 15 in A Minor. Sunday (Oct. 14) at 2:30pm; Dinkelspiel Auditorium, Stanford; $0–$44; 650.725.ARTS.

Lyric Theatre of San Jose With a lead character named Fifi, who sells hats in Paris and is looking for love, you know that a full-blown comic operetta can't be far behind. Victor Herbert's Mademoiselle Modiste is an American classic in the genre, memorable for the song "Kiss Me Again."
