GILROY'S FINEST: Robert 'The Ghost' Guerrero hails from Gilroy and will be making his return to the ring on March 7 at the HP Pavilion.

Ghost Story

By Felipe Buitrago

WHO HASN'T seen Rocky—or any of the other Rocky movies for that matter? We all know how he gets up and drinks his OJ with raw eggs, punches slabs of meat or climbs the steps of the Philly Museum of Art, all to get ready for the fight of his life. But how do you fight to save a life?

Gilroy boxer Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero knows how, with the same dedication he brings to the ring and a 10-month leave of absence from his peaking career in the boxing circuit. He did it all for his wife, who was diagnosed with leukemia in 2007. Her health now stable, "The Ghost" has returned to the ring with that same grit and determination. On March 7, he will fight for the NABO Jr. Lightweight Championship at the HP Pavilion. His opponent is Daud Yordan, who has a 15-and-0 record, 10 of those wins by knock-out. Guerrero will have the edge of experience, with not only boxing but other life challenges. And having fought a few more bouts than Yordan could give him the edge, but surely Yordan with zero losses is not looking to make this fight his first defeat.

Guerrero vs. Yordan isn't the only bout of the night. The card also includes hard-hitters James Kirkland, who is 24 and 0 with 21 KOs. He'll go against ESPN's 2008 "Prospect of the Year" Joel Julio, who is an amazing 34-2 and 31 KOs. If this fight card could talk it would be screaming.
